China overtakes US in AI research

#artificialintelligence

China is overtaking the U.S. in artificial intelligence research, setting off alarm bells on the other side of the Pacific as the world's two largest economies jockey for AI supremacy. In 2020, China topped the U.S. for the first time in terms of the number of times an academic article on AI is cited by others, a measure of the quality of a study. Until recently, the U.S. had been far ahead of other countries in AI research. One reason China is coming on strong in AI is the ample data it generates. By 2030, an estimated 8 billion devices in China will be connected via the Internet of Things -- a vast network of physical objects linked via the internet.

Wudao 2.0–10x Bigger Than GPT-3?

#artificialintelligence

GPT-3 caused a stir a few months ago when it impressed the world with its capabilities for generating text content. Its 175 million parameters made it look like a true AI giant. Now a new Deep Learning model is making an appearance at an AI event in Beijing. This model, referred to as Wudao, 'natural law understanding', is the world's largest new model with 1750 million parameters. The initial version was presented in March but has been quickly replaced by this larger version.

Meet China's First AI-Powered Virtual University Student

Hua Zhibing officially registered and became a student of Beijing's Tsinghua University on Tuesday. Hua Zhibing's appearance, voice and even the music playing in the background of the vlog she introduced herself to the world in were all created using on a record-breaking AI modeling system called Wudao 2.0. It was unveiled at the 2021 Beijing Academy of Artificial Intelligence (BAAI) Conference on June 1, and, according to its developers, it is the first trillion scale model in China and the largest in the world. Wudao 2.0 is designed to enable machines to think like humans and is reportedly close to passing the Turing test in poetry and couplets creation, text summaries, answering questions and painting. Tsinghua University's newest student will study in the Department of Computer Science and Technology and is expected to grow and learn faster than an average actual person.

What is WuDao 2.0, China's artificial intelligence model capable of writing poems and generating recipes that surpassed Google and Musk's OpenAI - Market Research Telecast

#artificialintelligence

The specialists of the Academy of Artificial Intelligence in Beijing (China) this week presented the most sophisticated natural language processing model in the world, which uses 1.75 trillion parameters to simulate conversational speech, write poems, understand images and even generate recipes, pick up the South China Morning Post newspaper. El WuDao 2.0, which in Chinese means'understanding of natural laws', is a previously trained artificial intelligence model that was developed with the help of more than 100 scientists. It is more powerful than the models of its main competitors: the GPT-3 from the company OpenAI (co-founded by Elon Musk), which was launched with 175,000 million parameters, and the Switch Transformer from Google, which uses 1.6 trillion parameters. The model develops both in Chinese and English acquired skills as you have'studied' 4.9 terabytes of images and texts, including 1.2 terabytes of text in those two languages. WuDao 2.0 already has 22 partners, such as smartphone maker Xiaomi or short video giant Kuaishou.
